A small but appreciative audience this evening gave organist Todd Wilson a standing ovation following his concert at Market Square Presbyterian Church. Wilson is head of the Organ Department at the Cleveland Institute of Music and artist-in-residence at Cleveland's Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
Wilson played some of the world's greatest organ music during the concert. Why wasn't the church filled? How often do we get to hear one of the country's best players here in Harrisburg?
It was very encouraging to see a mother and two childen whom she had brought to expose them to the majestic sounds of the organ. But as I drove up Second Street after the concert and saw and heard literally hundreds of revelers in the sidewalk bars and standing in line to get in the clubs, I came down to earth and realized what was more important to many of us, and it was not the world's best music.
